PhD candidate in AI applied to health data — safety and evaluation

Nexum is building its research team and is looking for a PhD candidate on the safety and evaluation of AI agents (Nexum Health AI) that process health data: evaluation methods, error detection, a trust framework under HDS constraints.

The role

Nexum Health AI's agents already operate in production, on health data governed by the HDS constraint. The PhD focuses on the methods that make it possible to evaluate and guarantee their safety: error measurement, trust framework, evaluation protocols suited to a real pharmacy context.

This is not an isolated theoretical topic: you work with real data, a scientific board of pharmacists that challenges every hypothesis, and a technical team that must answer for what it puts into production.

What you will do

  • Design evaluation methods and safety measures for AI agents operating on health data.
  • Work on error detection and the limits of the self-hosted language models used by Nexum.
  • Build a trust framework compatible with the regulatory constraints of health data (HDS).
  • Put your hypotheses to the scientific board of pharmacists and to feedback from the field.
  • Publish your results and, where relevant, contribute to moving them into production.

What we are looking for

  • A master's or engineering degree in computer science, machine learning or statistics, with an interest in health.
  • A sensitivity to safety, bias and evaluation questions in AI systems, beyond raw performance alone.
  • The rigour needed to work on health data under regulatory constraint.
  • English for scientific literature and technical exchanges; French is a plus.
  • Autonomy to advance a research topic over several years.
  • The security of health data is already the subject of this thesis; it also remains an operational requirement across all of Nexum's technical roles, under HDS constraints.

What we offer

  • Fully remote, from any country; the team is already international.
  • Access to real production data and a scientific board of pharmacists to ground the research.
  • A research team being built: the chance to influence its direction from the start.
  • An award-winning product, PharmagoraPlus 2026 Innovation Award, deployed in over 400 pharmacies.

The process, in four steps

  1. A conversation with the CTO about your background and research interests.
  2. A presentation of your past work or projects.
  3. A conversation with the scientific board of pharmacists on safety questions in a pharmacy context.
  4. A meeting with the team.

The exact PhD arrangement (CIFRE, academic partnership) is discussed based on your profile and originating lab. Decision within 48 hours after the last step.
