Job offer · Research & AI · Fully remote, no location constraint · CIFRE PhD / 3-year fixed-term contract
PhD candidate in conversational AI — research team
Nexum is building its research team and is looking for a PhD candidate to work on the self-hosted language models that power the voice assistant and Nexum Health AI's agents. Open topic on voice conversation in a pharmacy context.
The role
Nexum already runs a voice assistant in production, in over 400 pharmacies, with self-hosted language models. The PhD focuses on improving voice conversation in this real context: comprehension, latency, reliability against varied requests from patients and pharmacists.
The precise topic is built with you and the scientific board of pharmacists, who challenge the hypotheses. You will have access to production data and a technical team that runs its own servers.
What you will do
- Define and advance a research topic on voice conversation, connected to the real needs of Nexum's voice assistant.
- Design experiments on self-hosted language models, with access to production infrastructure and data.
- Publish and put your results to the scientific community, while keeping a foot in concrete application.
- Talk regularly with the scientific board of pharmacists to ground the research in real counter usage.
- Contribute, where relevant, to moving a research result into production.
What we are looking for
- A master's or engineering degree in computer science, natural language processing or machine learning.
- A real interest in conversational AI and language models, in both research and application.
- The wish to work on a product that already exists and serves pharmacies every day, not an isolated prototype.
- English for scientific literature and technical exchanges; French is a plus.
- Autonomy to advance a topic over several years, with supervision that is available but not directive.
- The research work relies on real exchanges with pharmacies and patients, hosted under HDS constraints: the security of this health data is part of the thesis framework.
What we offer
- Fully remote, from any country; the team is already international.
- Direct access to production data and infrastructure, rare for a corporate PhD.
- A research team being built: the chance to influence its direction from the start.
- An award-winning product, PharmagoraPlus 2026 Innovation Award, and a scientific board of pharmacists that challenges ideas.
The process, in four steps
- A conversation with the CTO about your background and research interests.
- A presentation of your past work or projects.
- A conversation with the scientific board of pharmacists on practical grounding.
- A meeting with the team.
The exact PhD arrangement (CIFRE, academic partnership) is discussed based on your profile and originating lab. Decision within 48 hours after the last step.
